Low Carbon steel

• Contains up to 0.3 % Carbon
• Have good ductility & weldability
• Low Strength

Medium Carbon Steel

• Contains Carbon from 0.3-0.6%
• Have good strength than low carbon steel
• Have tendency to crack in HAZ
• Tendency to crack if CE is more than 0.55

High Carbon Steel

• Contains more than 0.6% Carbon & less then 2%
• Can be heat treated & hardened
• Very high strength & poor weldability
• Used in service where high hardness is required

Alloy Steel

• Low alloy steel Contains alloying elements up to 5%
• High alloy steel Contains alloying elements more than 10%
